Mission and Vision of The St. Matthew's Primary School In Using A Digital Strategy

 MISSION 

The mission of the St. Matthew's Primary School is " to enhance learning by exploring all 
possibilities, to bring out the best in our student." 

VISION 

The vision of the St. Matthew's Primary School is to "creatively catering to the varied needs."

Taking the mission and vision of the St. Matthew's Primary School into consideration, the 
vision for the use of technology can be to improve the digital access for both students and 
staff members in using the internet, the various technological devices and software. 

Some of the areas that are important for implementing a digital strategy at the St. 
Matthew's Primary School are:

1. Timeline For The Implementing Plan For The Digital Strategy

As indicated before in the rational, a digital strategy will be more suited at this time for
the integration of technology at the St. Matthew's Primary School. Many changes and 
adjustments are needed so that this proposed plan can work. The time frame we will aim 
for is one(1) year to have the physical technology lab constructed and functioning with all 
of the necessary infrastructure in place. 


2. The Technology Committee

In order to plan effectively and set things in motion, we will have to create a Technology
Committee to develop the technology plan which will help improve the technological
issues at the St. Matthew's Primary School. This committee will comprise of: 

• The Principal
• The Senior Teacher 
• The Information Technology Coordinator
• A Special Education Teacher 
• The Early Childhood Coordinator
• The Language Arts Coordinator 
• The Mathematics and Science Coordinator
• The PTA President or a representative
• An ancillary staff representative 
• A Computer Lab Technician
• A representative from the Maintenance Department of the Ministry of Education

3. The Responsibilities Of The Technology Committee

• Carry out a needs assessment for the school's plant and the technology lab
• Source both human and equipment resources to build the technology lab
• Identify list of technology, equipment and software needed
• Schedule training sessions for teachers and students in using the technology devices and equipment correctly
• Plan and implement strategies to be used
• Assess and evaluate the technology plan to identify strengths and weaknesses
• Track project to ensure that the timeline of implementation is on schedule

4. Recommended List of Technology For The Committee To Consider

• Tester and Screw Driver
• Power Supply Tester
• Flash Disk.
• External Hard Disk Reader / Docking Station /Portable HDD
• Paper Clip
• Crimping tool and Punch Down Tool
• Blower

5. Assistance From The Parents Teacher Association(PTA) 

The school is financed through grants by the Ministry of Education, Technological 
and Vocational Training. We will need to seek other financial assistance to 
have these challenges addressed especially the lack of technological devices and 
equipment that were mentioned in the post "Assessment of the St. Matthew's 
Primary School - Challenges and Recommendations." The school has an active Parent 
Teachers Association (PTA) which can assist in projects or events to help raise money and 
'contributes it to purchase the much needed technological equipment and resources. 

6. The Old Scholars Association

The Old Scholars Association is another group that works closely with the school. 
The president of the association has the ability to reach out to past students locally here 
in Barbados and abroad for donations of devices or financial aid to purchase the said 
technological equipment. that is mentioned earlier. 

7. Summary Of The Plan For The Digital Strategy 

The Computer Lab set up at St. Matthew's Primary School, will be a classroom designed 
for teaching or studying of information technology. The Computer lab should be designed 
with ease of use, security and reliability in mind. There is no perfect lab, and each school 
will need to find the best way to create a lab that fits the needs of its students and its 
budget. The goal of a lab is to teach efficiently, and an underpowered computer can 
hinder the learning process of the students. 

One of the ways to get support for The Digital Strategy Plan, would be to have all of the 
stakeholders - staff, parents, students etc. involved to maintain a good and safe school 
climate as technology is integrated into the classroom and around the sound in general. 
This can be achieved by ensuring that the students experiences are broaden and that their 
academic, physical, moral, emotional and I dare say, technological needs as well are met. 


8.  Recommended List Of Technology For The Committee to Consider  
In order for the proposed digital strategy to work, specific requirements should be met.
